Beginning in 2006, BrasArte presented the first annual Yemanjá Festival in February. This is the first celebration of its kind in the San Francisco Bay Area, but recreates the famous Yemanja festival held annually in Salvador, Bahia on February 2nd.
The Yemanjá Festival was held at the Capoeira Arts Cafe in Berkeley, and presented a full range of performances by dancers and musicians from both the Cuban and Brazilian traditions. With this festival, BrasArte brought these two communities into a fusion of African Diasphora cultural exchange.
