Emaye is a lover of sacred body movement. Her encounter with dance began early in life. Stemming from a traditional samba family as her great grandmother Olinda was one of the founders of Salgueiro, a big school of Samba in Rio, she was exposed to Jongo or Caxambú, a rhythm that encompasses dance moves, drumming and pontos (chanted lyrics). Inspired by the stories she would hear from her grandmother Dulce, born and raised at Morro do Salgueiro (former coffee plantation, currently a favela), and the example of Tia Maria do Jongo da Serrinha, both now on the Ancestral plane, she went onto learning more about this cultural manifestation.
