A Special Sacred Orixá Movement Workshop where we will explore the symbology of different yabás (feminine orixás): Yemanjá, Oxum, Oyá & Ewá. Lead by Master teaching artist from Salvador, Bahia: Vera Passos. A study of the connections between the rhythms and the traditional movement, archetype and story, of the Orixa dances interpreted as an art form. Discover how sacred symbolism inspires the body to dance. Orixa is the Essence of the Universe. About Vera Passos With a degree in Dance at the Federal University of Bahia, Master's student in Dance at PRODAN - UFBA, teacher, dancer and choreographer, Vera began her training with modern dance in Salvador, and got involved with other forms of dance - such as Classic Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Traditional Brazilian Dances. She has studied with first generation renowned Brazilian professors, among them: Gal Mascarenhas, Lia Robato. Mestre King, Carlinhos Moraes, Zebrinha… Passos danced in Companies such as Africa Poesia, Companhia de Dança Jorge Silva and was a solo dancer with the internationally acclaimed Bale Folclórico da Bahia. Initiating her studies with the Silvestre Technique (Developed by Rosângela Silvestre) in 1988 and, in 2002, she began to share Silvestre knowledge with students in Salvador and around the world. She is currently director of Silvestre Link Bahia, associate artistic director of Los Angeles based, award winning Viver Brasil Dance Company, and director and founder of Casa de Cultura Somovimento. Vera travels around the world teaching classes and composing for Dance, music and theater companies. |
